IT SHOW 2010

Level 4 is where most of the big brands are located. We are greeted with
brochures while entering the floor space. This IT SHOW 2010, as we have reported
in our preview before, we will see lots of new notebooks. Notebooks almost
everywhere. In fact, almost half of the hall are booths selling different brands
of notebooks ranging from ASUS, HP, Lenovo, DELL etc. Major stores are also
having discounts of up to 60% of the LCD TVs at the show.
Most of the notebooks on sale are based on the new Intel Core i3 or Core i5.
Most of them are 14" widescreen notebooks and are 2.0 odd kg in weight. The
price ranges from as low as S$999 to S$1299 depending on specifications. There
are some Core i7 big screen notebooks too from Alienware, those are for gamers
and they are priced at S$3099.
The Star buy I would recommend will be the Dell's Inspiron 14 Core i5-430M
system. It comes with Core i5-430M at 2.26GHz, 2GB DDR, 320GB HDD, 14" WLED
screen and 512M ATI mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics. It retails for S$1199.
There is a cheaper variant at S$999 but that is with Core i30-330m at 2.13GHz
and 250GB HDD. Both comes with Free Win 7 Home Premium. The other model is from
Acer, model is Aspire 4740-332G32Mn. It is powered by Core i3-330M at 2.13GHz
and uses NVIDIA GeForce 310M with 512M DDR3 VRAM inside. It has a 14" HD screen
1366x768 and retails for S$1098. Another model is the MSI CR420-i3. It is priced
at S$999 with Core i3-330M processor running at 2.13GHz. It has a 14" wide
screen, 2GB RAM, 320GB SATA HDD, 6 cell battery and 2 yrs warranty.
Although desktops are almost extinct from the show, we see HP having one. The
price is amazing low for such a PC with 20" LCD screen.
Netbooks are getting cheaper too, The price has dropped below the S$499 mark and
the newest atom based on N450 is only retailing for S$479.
At another corner of level 4, we see super discounts for LCD TVs. For example,
the Philips 52PFL5604 52" LCD TV now retails for S$2399. Just a couple of months
ago, it was beyond the S$3000 mark. The Philips Bluray player BDP-2500 slashed
its price by S$100, retailing at S$199.
