IT SHOW 2010

It is usual for the crowds to form whenever there are sales going on in town.
The same applies for 3C shows like the IT SHOW 2010 at Suntec City. We
visited the show on the first day (Thur) and were surprised by the turn out at
midday. On Thursday, we also brought you our first LIVE Twitter about the show
from 12 pm to 4pm. If you have missed it here is where you can have a
recap based on
time line.
So what are the good buys at the show ? When we first arrived, we first saw the
Canon booth on the ground floor. The booth is next to the main entrance to
Suntec and you could miss it due to the crowd control there.
Anyway, at the Canon booth, my eyes were glued to the LEGRIA HF R16, it is a
Full HD 1080p Video camcorder which comes with 8GB built in memory, 20x optical
zoom. It seems like a good deal as it is price at just close to S$1100. For DSLR
starters, there is also the EOS 1000D at S$899 and it comes with 2 SD 8GB card
tripod, 2GB Flash drive, lens workshop and EOS bag FREE.
Up the floors, we see Singtel and M1 and Starhub is right on top of them. The
three telcos usually have impressive deals to tie you up for 2 years contract.
For Singtel, the offers aren't that attractive, the two better ones are the Free
Macbook and S$88 plan and Free Acer Aspire 4820T at S$69.90 plan. Both are
10Mbps plans. Mio TV movies is bundled in for Free. If you are going for HSPA+
wireless plans, Singtel has a S$99 21mbps plan. it comes with a free Apple
MacBook.
For higher broadband speeds above 10Mbps, you would have to go for the cable
path. Starhub's Maxonline plans remains more or less the same. The only
attractive promotion is the when you sign up for a 100Mbps plan with free
7.2mbps plan + free home line at S$99.30., you get a Free Lenovo All in on PC
powered by PentiumT4400, Win7, 21.5"LED full HD Screen. Although not a new plan,
value for money plans include the Maxonline surflite at S$26.96, it now comes
with 2mbps cable plan with modem and 1.2mbps free HSPA modem for mobile internet
surfing. A free home line is also thrown in. If you are looking for a basic
wireless internet connection thru HSDPA, Maxmobile Basic would fit the bill with
1.2MBps at S$14 per month.
M1 has both ADSL and Cable plans and they seem to offer a pretty good deal. They
are offering a Free HP MINI 210 Notebook if you sign up 8mbps home broadband + 2
Mbps mobile broadband at $58.36 per month. Alternatively you can get it for
S$69.30 if you sign up the 7.2mbps HSPA mobile broadband. Another deal is that
Fujitsu Lifebook P3010W at S$188 when you sign up Home Broadband (30Mbps) and
Mobile broadband (4Mbps) at S$94.28 per month.
When it comes to mobile phones, Singtel seems to have the upper hand by
introducing two latest phones, the Sony Ericsson VIVAZ and the Acer Liquid. The
Sony Ericsson VIVAZ is a Symbian OS phone capable of recording HD video 720p
with auto focus. The Acer Liquid is a Android 1.6 powered mobile phone with 1GHz
snapdragon processor within. The Sony Ericsson Vivza is offered at S$0 with 3G
Flexi Amped plus Plan or S$98 for 3G Flexi AMPed Lite plan after S$100 trade in.
The Acer Liquid is S$0 if you sign up for 3G Flexi Plus plan after $100 trade-in
or S$68 with 3G Flexi Lite plan after S$200 trade in.
On the same level, we check out the Sony booth which takes up most of the third
floor. At one corner of the floor, we see long queues of people waiting to
experience 3D on a 200 inch projector screen. Sony is also showing its latest 3D
technology HDTVs to let consumers have a first hand view of what is like to
watch in 3D. The Sony 3D TV is scheduled to go on sale in Singapore in July this
year.
At the Sony booth, we also found the BDP-S360 BluRay player selling for S$299
and it comes with FREE MJ title and HDMI cable. What a steal!
