Mainboard Layout of ASUS
M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 AMD 890GX+SB850 mainboard review The ASUS M4A79GTD Pro/USB3 comes in a full ATX form factor. It has 2 PCI, 2 PCIe 2.0 full length slots (1 x 16 or 2 x 8 in CrossFireX). There is also another PCIe 2.0 x 4 and a PCIe 2.0 x1 slot on board. Behind the slots are the chipsets including the NEC 3.0, VIA 1394, Realtek audio codec and GbE controller. To the right is the back panel which we will take a close look later.
Both North bridge and South bridge are passively cooled with a blue heatpipe design. The board is a 8+2 phase power design for maximum stability. Beneath the mosfets is the CPU socket and North bridge with 128M DDR3-1500 Side port memory on the PCB. Below it is 4 DIMM slots supporting memory of up to 16 GB of DDR3-1866(OC). Below the DIMM slotsare switches for unlocking the hidden cores (core_unlocker) and Turbokey. There is also a button for MemOK!. To the left is the IO controller chip and EVO chip. Nxet to it is the South bridge SB850 which supports 6 SATA3 ports with RAID 0,1,5,10. The IDE channel is supported by the Jmicron chip on board. 4 USB external connectors (blue) sits right next to the PCI slot 1.
On the back panel are the PS/2 Keyboard 2 x USB2, 1 SPDIF, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D, 1 D-SUB, 2 x USB 2, 1 x1394, 1 powered eSATA, LAN, USB 3 Ports 1&2, audio ports.
