Conclusion

As we can see from the results, the HomePlug HL108E did give a speed improvement over the traditional WIFI which give a lower speed. Although the speed difference is around 30% faster, the transfer is more stable than using WIFI. Although WIFI gives you the convenience to move about and use a notebook or PDA via the Wireless Router, interferences from other signals always result in drop packets resulting in corrupted file transfers sometimes.

With the Homeplug HL108E, this is no longer a problem. The speed could be affected by old cabling, extension wires being used etc. While we suggest that proper Ethernet cabling be used for networking, the Aztech Powerline Ethernet adaptors are suitable for those who does not wish to mess out their house furnishings with messy recabling work.

In our tests, we tried to playback some video files residing on another floor through a file share on the network. There seems to be no issues at all. Video was smooth and all seemed to work well.

Priced at S$200+ for a pair, the price is quite steep. I think this price is reasonably cheap if you were to a contractor to relay your ethernet cables. Current packaging only comes with a pair.
