Conclusion (Pricing)

Powercolor is one of the first to go into the retail market. Being comitted into delivering the performance levels at a good price point to capture customer's attention. From the tests done, Powercolor X1900XT performs pretty well in Normal and CrossFire setup. The performance level is pretty well above the levels of a 7800GTX 256M card in both single and SLI mode.

In terms of packaging, the Powercolor X1900XT, it only provided what is needed. There is only a DVD playback and authoring tool. No games are included in the package.

Overclocking wise, we tried to overclock the card but it seems that it didn't want to go beyond the 660MHz for Core. Perhaps some other cooling methods will help to achieve higher core speeds. As most of the tools still does not work well with the card, we have to use the built in overdrive utility to o/c the card.

Installation is not that complex if you know how to fix up the crossfire cables and which slot should the CrossFire edition card sits in. Always remember the CrossFire edition card will always be the card that outputs the video. Also remember to set the BIOS so that both PCIe is 8x. The other thing is that the card is a bit too long and it might obstruct the SATA ports that sits on the bottom edge of my ECS KA1 MVP Extreme

X1900XT's performance could be tapped further if it were to be paired up with a higher clocked CPU. This is especially the case for 3Dmark06 which seems to have gone CPU bound. A Dual Core processor will definitely skew the result upwards by quite a substantial amount.

In our test, the cards work smoothly as it is. No major issues encountered even when setting up the CrossFire. For those who are running a single card, a power requirement of 450W and 30A current on 12V rail is recommended by ATi. If you intend to run CrossFire, it will require 550W PSU with 38A on 12V rail. It will also require a power supply with 2 6-pin PCI express power connectors.
