Scythe Silent Box Noise Reduction Fanless 3.5" HDD Case 3/3
Bluetooth 24 Jan 2004

Silent Box

We did a simple test and see how effective is the heat transfer of this enclosure. What we did is that we used the Coolermaster AeroGate2 to measure the temperature on the backside of the enclosure. The tests done are HD-TACH and SISOFT SANDRA FILE SYSTEM benchmark.

Just power on, probe is reading room temperature.

After

As you can see from the screenshots, the room temperature is 27C. When we placed the probe in, it registers 32C after a while and it is quite constant. There are not disk activity at this moment.

Later we ran HDtach followed by SiSoft Benchmark one after another. The temperature rises from 33.5C to 35C. We did a check on the same HDD (no enclosure), we are getting around an average of 34C.

From the tests, it can be seen that the Heat Lane does plays an important role in transferring the heat out of the box effectively. The box could have include a analog temperature gauge so that users can read it off from the front.

Considering that this is the first enclosure that uses a Heat Lane and do not use a fan, this is definitely something that is unique of Scythe. It breaks the myth that you can't have low heat with low noise. Overall, a very innovative product!
