has been sometime since we last saw Gigabyte P4 board. Today we take a look at
the GA8I955X Royal mainboard from Gigabyte. GA-8I955X Royal is based on the
Intel 955X chipset and it supports the new Intel Extreme Edition supporting
Hyper Threading technology, or two threads when used with an Intel® Pentium® D
processor; providing multi-core server functionality from the desktop. Support
for the latest Serial-ATA II interface, the GA-8I955X Royal boasts blinding
3Gb/s hard disk drive data transfer speeds that are 100% compatible with the
latest software utilities and operating systems. Highly advanced Intel® Matrix
Storage technology allows RAID 0 (Striping), RAID 1 (Mirroring), RAID 0+1
(Striping and Mirroring), and RAID 5 (Parity RAID) multi-disk designs to be
created by the user depending on their preference for protection or performance.
The RAID 5 function supports drive roaming capability that enables drives from
one controller to be removed to another without losing data and sports a
familiar Windows®-based utility for ease of use. If you are those who loves to tweak the board to maximum performance, the GA-8I955X has one of the most extensive BIOS options which you can adjust. Voltage, FSB, ASync memory settings are all available. For those who just wants plain performance, the BIOS allows you to set it to auto overclock based on applications run. This functions comes handy with the CPU Intelligent Accelerator 2 (CIA 2) and Memory Intelligent Booster 2 (MIB 2)
