ASrock 939Dual-SATA2 ULi M1695 USB/Disk Performance
7/8
USB and Disk Performance Disk Performance (ULi Southbridge) Using the same Seagate 7200.7 HDD ST3160827AS, we benchmark the disk using Sandra and HD Tach. The score of 51MB/s is as good as most of the boards. In HD-Tach, we see that the burst speed is amazingly good at 124MB/s. In fact, most of the board that comes with NCQ does not even peak at 124MB/s. Average read is 48.7MB/s and a 5% CPU Utilisation.
Disk Performance (Jmicron SATA II controller) Although the HDD we used is not a SATA II HDD, connecting the HDD to the Jmicron SATAII connector, we check out if NCQ helps since the controller supports NCQ and SATA II. From the results, we see there isn't much difference whether we use the Jmicron or South Bridge SATA controller. The only thing we noticed is that the burst speed went down from 124MB/s to 108.2MB/s. The average read speed is 48.5MB/s. Looks like the onboard SB's SATA is still faster. Perhaps new drivers would improve its performance in time to come. Update [11 Aug 2005] We received a new driver for the Jmicron SATAII interface and tested out the performance using the new driver. With Sisoft File system Benchmark, we still get 51MB/s. The major difference we see is in HD Tach 3. The burst speed has shot up by quite an amount to 145MB/s compared to 108MB/s in the previous test. Average speed and cpu utilisation results are similar when benchmarked using the older driver.
