SiS 746FX Reference Board Review (7)

Benchmarking

Quake 3 Demo 001

The test is done based on Q3 Demo 001 at 1024x768x32. As we can see, in terms of 3D applications, the SiS 746FX doesn't seem to do very well. Although it's not fair to compare a Dual channel system to a Single Channel system, we can see that running the SiS 746FX at Async DDr400 Ultra (aggressive timings) makes it closer to the performance levels of the Dual channel ddr. Will SiS 746FX be better when running at 166mhz fsb and memory at 200Mhz. Please stay tuned to episode 2.

3Dmark2001 SE Build 330

In 3DMark2001SE benchmarks, the nForce2 which is somehow very well tuned for 3D performance is still the leader. The SiS746FX similar to the KT400 are single channel DDR and thus this resulted in lesser bandwidth for these memory intensive applications.

Comanche 4 Demo

Again, the nForce2 platform is the choice for 3D apps. With a lead of around 3.42%. Hmm, looks like Dual Channel DDR does make a difference.
