AOPEN introduces its latest mainboard based on
Canterwood last week. AX4C MAX is the high end model of a series of 3 boards
using the new 875 chipset. Today, we reviewed the AX4C Max which is targetted at
the workstation level users.
The board supports the latest p4 800mhz cpu and
uses an enhanced controller with 82875P memory controller hub (MCH) and ICH5R
that supports RAID function. Canterwood is ready to support dual channel of DDR
400 and "Performance Acceleration Technology".
AX4C Max comes equipped with lots of nice
features - 4 SATA ports with RAID, Dual Channel DDR400, Die Hard BIOS, 6 channel
audio, AOpen innovative Hercules PCI slot (Blue PCI slot), Broadcom Gigabit
Ethernet, 1394 etc.
On this board, AOpen introduces a new technology known as HerculesPCI.
HerculesPCI comes in a separate set of 3.3 volt power circuitry, HerculesPCI
supplies needed current and making it virtually free from the “loading issue” of
traditional PCI slot. In addition, traces around this specially designed slot
power delivery are upgraded for making its signals much more robust than their
fellow PCI slots onboard. When building machines with PCI cards, such as SCSI
and RAID cards, the card installed on this slot will never be affected even when
the board is fully populated. Hercules PCI keeps supplying you best performance
and stability.
