The following tests are run at least 3 times to obtain a sustain score. MSI 845E Max2 is set to run at the best timings of CAS 2, DDR266, 2-2-5.

1) Best timings at CAS 2, 1T, DDR333, 2-2-2-4 RAM timings to reach the best speed. (async timing)
2) Turbo timings at CAS 2.5, 2T, DDR266, 3-3-3-6 RAM timings. (sync timing)

All above setup are set to operate with an AGP aperture size of 128MB so that consistent results can be used for comparison purposes.

Benchmark Tests Run

Quake 3 Demo 001

Quake3 is a well known game and it has been well accepted as a defacto benchmarking software for testing gaming performance. In this test, we benchmarked the Demo001 at 800x600x32 (Hi Quality) and discovered some interesting results.

A quick look at the benchmark shows that the RAMBUS seems to be running slower than expected by a few frames. The results of the SiS645DX at DDR333 fully tuned up is amazing. The MSI 845E Max2 is also on aggressive timings and it only has a lead of 2 frames when compare head to head with the SiS645DX running at DDR266 using normal cas 2.5 timings. Looks like we would expect some fine tuning of the Intel boards in their graphics drivers.
