ASUS P4G8X Dual DDR Mainboard (1)
Overclocker 13 Nov 2002
Today ASUS official announced it's offering of a dual channel
DDR266 mainboard based on the new Intel chipset
E7205. A lot of our
readers are anticipating this chipset and it could be the a change of direction
by Intel to go with DDR than with RAMBUS.
First of all, let's read a bit of background of this E7205
code named Granite Bay. As we know, Intel's RAMBUS 850E had much success in the
sync cpu/memory bus using PC1066 RAMBUS because P4 CPU bandwidth of 4.2GB/s is
inline with PC1066. On the other hand, current chipsets supporting DDR266, async
DDR333, async DDR400 still falls short of the demanding P4's quest for more
memory bandwidth.
As DDR-II is still not ready, a Dual Channel DDR (2 x 2.1G =
4.2G) might be another solution since DDR 266 modules are relatively much
cheaper than RAMBUS. Furthermore, DDR 266 are readily available to take
advantage of the dual platform.
ASUS P4G8X
ASUS P4G8X is such a board based on the Intel E7205 chipset
which supports Intel HT 3.06G+ processor and Dual Channel DDR266. On top of
that, this board also features Gigabit Ethernet, AGP 8X, S-ATA, 1394, USB 2.0,
Overclocking (voltage, fsb tweaks) etc.
On the following pages, you will see the gallery followed by
the benchmarks and conclusion.
Specifications
The
P4G8X, leveraging Intel®'s latest E7205 chipset, supports Intel®'s
Hyper-Threading Technology and processing power of 3.06GHz and beyond
to bridge you to a new dimension of computing experience. With
dual-channel DDR up to 4GB, the P4G8X provides the bandwidth for the most
memory-intensive applications. The ASUS motherboard, of course, also
throws in industry-leading technologies such as AGP 8X, Serial ATA and
Broadcom Gbit LAN (on
P4G8X Deluxe model) for revolutionary performance.

3GHz+ CPU and Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology support
Leveraging the Intel® E7205 chipset to support 3GHz+ P4 CPUs on
533MHz FSB, DDR333 memory,
Intel
Hyper-Threading Technology and a full-range of advanced features, the
P4G8X Deluxe delivers a full-value, high-performance solution for today's
most demanding tasks.
|
Dual-Channel DDR
Dual-channel DDR technology doubles the bandwidth of your system memory
and hence boost the system performance to out perform any memory existing
solutions in the market. The P4G8X allows you to handle memory-intensive
tasks with ease.

C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall)
When the system hangs due to overclocking failure,
there is no need to open the case to clear CMOS data. Simply restart the
system and the BIOS will automatically restore the CPU default setting for
each parameter.
|
AGP 8X Technology
AGP8X (AGP 3.0) is the next generation VGA interface
specification that enables enhanced graphics performance with high
bandwidth speeds up to 2.12GB/s. With a bus of 533MHz, AGP8X is twice as
fast as AGP4X.
|
Multi-language BIOS
ASUS provides friendly localized BIOS setup menu to
help you configure your system as easy as possible.
** For multi-language BIOS, please visit the ASUS website for supported
languages information.
|
Q-Fan Technology
ASUS Q-Fan technology intelligently adjusts fan
speeds according to system loading to ensure quiet, cool and efficient
operation.
|
ASUS® EZ Flash
With ASUS EZ Flash, you can update BIOS before entering operating system.
No more DOS-based flash utility and bootable diskette required.
|
Extreme Overclocking
ASUS P4G8X offers robust overclocking options to
maximize your system performance.
- Flexible CPU Core Voltage Adjustments in 0.025V increments over
defaults
- SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection) from 100Mhz up to 200MHz at 1MHz
increments
- Adjustable FSB/DDR ratio. Fixed AGP/PCI frequencies
- ASUS propritary C.P.R.(CPU Parameter Recall)
