Overclocker 23 Sep 2002

Benchmarking

We conduct the a number of tests on the setup with the following configuration :

Test System:

  • Intel Pentium 4 2.4B
  • MSI 845PE i845PE mainboard running DDR333 Async mode CAS 2, 2-2-5
  • ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES 64MB with Detonator 40.41
  • Maxtor D740X-6L ATA133 7200RPM
  • AOPEN 40X CDROM
  • Corsair 512MB XMS3200 DDR400 module
  • Channelwell 375W AMD Approved PSU

Madonion 3DMark2001SE Build 330 and Overclocking

Benchmarking and overclocking is easy with the help of PowerStrip. Something that we noticed about the ABIT Siluro Ti4200 OTES card is that the default is in fact running at 275/554 which is higher than the default on most Ti4200 cards based on reference design. Knowing that the ram is a 3.6ns, it is possible to reach at least a 277(DDR555)Mhz, we increased it to 300(DDR600) and see if things are OK. Well it went smooth without any problems.

In fact, when we raise the memory to 610, 620, we begin to see artifacts appearing. Looks like the 3.6ns is a big hurdle for the card to overclock better. Some of the other designs we saw uses 3.3ns video ram instead of 3.6ns.

We have heard lots of good about A3 stepping of this GPU as it is able to run above 300 easily. We boosted the GPU Core to 300, everything went smoothly too. We went further at 320, 325, 330 and everything seems fine under Quake 3. Under 3Dmark2001, we can see that the benchmark hangs (but can still be aborted). We reduced it to 310 and it seems to be the best setting for us. We benchmark it at Core : 310 Memory : 300 (DDR600).

Not bad after all, a 5.3% increase is recorded comparing the card at different core/mem speed.
