Conclusion

Samsung LA40M81BD IDTV is the first HDTV set to incorporate a H.264 decoder / tv tuner built in. It is a TV set that is built for the future as it comes with 2 HDMI ports. It comes handy for multi source connections from HDDV, BluRay, game consoles.

LA40M81BD is an extraordinary HDTV. With digital broadcasts, you can check the programme schedule and programme synopsis with the click of a button. HD broadcast is vivid with vibrant colours. Even for SD broadcasts, this TV upscales it nicely. Although it is nice to view OTA digital broadcasts, there are some locations which might have difficulty getting the DVB-T signal. In order to take advantage of that, a amplified TV antenna or a roof top antenna is needed. Another challenge is how many channels will be broadcasted in DVB-T H.264. Currently, only Starhub Digital Cable provides HD STB and it is subscription based. The upcoming Singtel's IPTV will also require a STB. Both will be able to use the HDMI to output to the LCD TV.

In terms of image quality, LA40M81BD delivers good contrast level.  Most of the LCD TVs appears greyish, on the LA40M81BD, the black is true black, this makes viewing more enjoyable.

In conclusion, if you want quality image and watch terrestial HD5 and upcoming HD channels (upscaled or native), LA40M81BD is the definitely the choice.
