Video Playback CPU Utilisation test

Using the latest edition of PowerDVD 7.3 Deluxe, we ran two high cpu utilisation clips - Step into liquid (WMVHD) and a short test clip AVC format.

The CPU utilisation has dropped. In fact, we have never seen such numbers on an integrated chipset.

WMVHD plays smoothly with low cpu utilisation. MPEG4-AVC took an average of 75% CPU utilisation when we playbacked the H.264 movie. With the same bluray movie played back on a AMD 690G with Catalyst 7.5, we are getting an average of 90% cpu utilisation. Decoding another TS Mpeg4-AVC gave us an average reading of aorund 60% for cpu utilisation. As for the third test, we used Step Into Liquid WMVHD clip and it require 40% cpu utilisation.

Below are the screen captures. The first is playing back of BluRay movie encoded in MPEG4-AVC. The second screen capture is a transport stream (TS) encoded in MPEG4-AVC 1920x1080p and the third is a WMVHD clip (Step into liquid).
