ECS PT880-A VIA PT880 P4 Mainboard Review (7)
Bluetooth 11 Mar 2004

Conclusion

The ECS PT880-A shows remarkable stability and performance during our tests. Incorporating the VIA PT880 DUal Channel DDR400 chipset, the ECS PT880-A's performance is good among the boards tested. Although the chipset is still new, it has shown maturity and that is displayed in its stability and impressive scores obtained in the BWS2002 and MCWS2003 tests. When compared to the 865PE or 848P boards, the PT880-A still lose out to the bigger brothers out there.

Overclocking wise, this board does not have voltage adjustments. You can only set the ram timings. In our tests, our most aggressive timing is CAS 2, 6-2-2. If we were able to tune down to 1T cmd, the system won't POST at all. There are also voltage adjustments for Vcore and Vdimm of up to +6% of the default voltage. If you intend to overclock the board, we had problems running it up to 230MHz. This could be due to no FIX PCI/AGP available. The max FSB we can reach is around 225.

The board has basic feature set but should be good enough for most of your needs. It comes with SATA RAID for those who intends to use it for multimedia encoding which performs very well in the tests even with IDE.

Overall, a stable board that can be considered when purchasing your P4 board.
