Using FileZilla, we connect it to a local FTP server and try to download a file from the FTP server. From the NetPerSec program, we were able to see that the downlink speed averages to 12.4Mbps with a minimum of 11.5Mbps and a max of 14.6Mbps.

Using another file, we tested again the downlink speed for another file, this time round, it achieved 10.5Mbps.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think Starhub's HSPA+ network still require a bit more tweaking to make it go faster. In actual fact, if I am able to get 50% of the advertised speed, it is already very good judging from the the variable factors which affects mobile broadband speed.

From what we understand, Starhub is doing some testing for better compatibility with it's network. They mentioned that there will be newer Qualcomm chipsets for the USB dongle sticks and that should improve the performance further.
