Starhub TV enables
16:9 wide screen format for certain channels
Introduction
Watching cable channels on LCD TV has always been a pain for
viewers using a wide screen LCD TV. This is because other than HD channels that
are broadcasted in the 16:9 format, the rest of the channels are broadcasted in
the standard definition 4:3 format. Although there are many programmes that are shot in high
definition, the dramas or movies shown on the channels are still downsized to
4:3 format. When it is displayed on a 16:9 LCD TV, images get stretched and
distorts the image, your beautiful actress suddenly puts on more weight and has
a rounder face. For some time, users using the Hubstation should already
found out that there is a display option in the main manu which you can set to
display for Wide Screen or standard display. In the past, we tried but it doesn't affect the video
display. Lately, while I was watching BBC NEWS, i noticed the layout seems to be
changed, a circle is a circle (my default setting is wide screen format). So, I
tried and change it to standard, the image get squashed horizontally and it
seems to be the display meant for a 4:3 box. Below is a video that shows BBC NEWS and DW-TW in both Wide
Screen format and Standard View. On the next page, we show you the pictures of
Standard and Wide Screen setting of the channels.
