Review of Samsung Pixon12 GT-M8910 12 megapixel camera phone

Last year, we reviewed a couple of 8 megapixel camera phones from Samsung. This year, Samsung up it's ante introducing 12 megapixel camera phones. The first of this series is the Samsung Pixon12. The model name should sound familiar as this is the second phone under the touch screen Pixon series. The first was a 8 megapixel M8800 introduced in end of year 2008.

From it's external, it looks like the Samsung Jet and is more compact than the Pixon M8800. It bears a 3.1" 480x800 16M AMOLED screen just 0.1" smaller than the Pixon M8800. Instead of the 5 megapixel camera on the Jet, it incorporate a 12 megapixel Xenon + Power Led Flash Camera with 28mm wide angle lens. The mediagate cube interface is also not found on the Pixon12.

The built in camera comes with AF Macro, Face Detection. It can also be set to shoot mode for Single, Beauty, Smile Shot, Continuous, Panorama, Vintage, Timer Shot. For effects it comes with Black and White, Sepia, Negative, Antique, Sharpen.

The phone provides the best photo quality by adopting innovative camera features. With Touch Auto-Focus (AF) with Object Tracking, users can simply select a focal point at a touch, after which the AF function will automatically follow the object and keep it in focus even as it moves across the screen. Moreover, Smart Auto feature allows users to capture the perfect images as the camera automatically changes the scene and mode functions based on its object, background and lighting. The Beauty Shot feature creates a soft effect to images for smoother looking skin, which is perfect for portrait shots. The 28mm wide-angle lens also allows users to see the bigger picture and capture a wider perspective.

It can record motion video too at D1(720x480) 30fps. It supports MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD playback. Other features of this phone include WiFi, GPS with Samsung Navigation Solution and there is English and Chinese handwriting Recognition. Applications include Youtube, Facebook are preinstalled in the phone.
