Review Conclusion of Gigabyte MA785GPM-UD2H AMD 785G+SB710 Mainboard
Bluetooth 1 Aug 2009

Conclusion

We have so far reviewed 2 AMD 785G board, one full ATX and the MA785GPM-UD2H which is a mATX board. It is no surprise that both performed quite similarly as they both belong to the same chipset family. The only difference is the performance of DDR3 vs DDR2. As this board also uses the SB710, The AOD ACC feature can be enabled. With the Phenom II X3 710 and 720 processors and BIOS, it can easily enable the 4th core of the processor giving a 33% boost in performance. (See picture below with task manager showing 4 core for Phenom II X3 710).

Features wise, this board has what most AMD 785G board provides. As it is a microATX mainboard, it does not have the full fledge features of a full ATX board. This board supports Hybrid CrossFire when paired up with a compatible card. Alternatively, pair it up with an external high end graphics card and you get a full fledge system with amazing graphics performance. It comes with lmost all the necessary stuff on board and that includes 3 output ports D-SUB, DVI-D, HDMI, 1394, SPDIF, GbE, eSATA, RAID, Sideport memory etc. In addition to these feature, The MA785GPM-UD2H comes with Ultra Durable 3 which is 2Oz Copper PCB to run the board cooler, 50000 Hr Japanese solid Caps, Dual BIOS. It also has Easy Energy Saver - auto adjust CPU power depending on workload. , EC AOD-ACC and FullHD 1080P bluray playback support.

In terms of overclocking, the BIOS has lots of options for you to play with. A bump in the NB voltage allows us to run the board steadily with GPU at 1GHz without any issues. (Some boards couldn't do 950MHz stable). The sideport memory can also be run at different speeds. Due to time constraint, we didn't try 667 (DDR3-1333), we ran it at default which is 533 (DDR3-1066).

In OC test, we set the CPUCLK to 230MHz with cool n quiet set to off. Multiplier is set to 13x and the cpu voltage is set to 1.4v. After entering Windows vista, we activate EasyTune 6 and is able to overclock the processor Phenom II X3 710 to 3.45GHz, that is higher than what we get on another board (3.3GHz).

The package is kept to bare minimum and the documentation seems to be a bit too simplistic. For a microATX board with such a good feature set, I would definitely prefer it over a full size ATX as it takes up too much space. It might also just be the next upgrade for you if you insist on using your older DDR2 memory although DDR3 will give you just a tiny bit more performance gains.
