Benchmarks - ATTO
With the card installed onto the ASUS P7P55D
Premium and drivers installed. We tested the performance of USB 3.0 and SATA 3
(6Gbps) with the enclosure. Finally we run the tests again using a SSD in
replacement of the HDD to ensure that the limiting factor is not in the SATA2
drive.
Using USB 3.0 connected to HDD enclosure
Using USB 3.0 with SSD
Using SATA 3 connected to the HDD
First, we take a look at what happens when we connect the Seagate HDD versus the
Intel X25M SSD both inside the enclosure and connected to U3S6 via the USB 3.0
interface.
With the Seagate SATA2 HDD, we achieve for 8KB block of 134MB/s for read 128MB/s
for write. With SSD in place, the results of the same test reaches 263MB/s
for read and 80MB/s for write. (write speed is limited with the SSD).
If we were to use the Seagate HDD and connect it directly to the SATA3 interface
of the U3S6, it's results are 134MB/s on the average for read and write.
From ATTO, we can see that the USB 3.0 and SATA3 are equally fast when it comes
to a HDD. One thing is for sure. USB has never been that fast. Current USB 2.0
could only give us less than half of what USB 3.0 speed can achieve.
