Review Conclusion of BlackBerry 8520OCWorkbench 10 Dec 2009
Conclusion
In the past, I always thought that such QWERTY phones are only meant for corporate users that requires immediate attention to emails, documents like word, pdf. With the Social networking phenomenon, QWERTY phones like the BlackBerry 8520 is definitely a choice for the younger generation of users. In fact, it was also my fast time using BlackBerry to report on events using twitter. It is made easy with the integrated application. This is not so if you want to attach pictures to your twit or facebook. I particularly like the alerts it sent out whenever there is incoming messages or updates to my Facebook or Twitter account. This is highly useful when reporting live events as texting with a keyboard is simply the best compared to touch screen phones. Although this phone only has GPRS/EDGE support, that did not stop us from uploading picture attachments to our twitter account during Sitex 2009 exhibition. It took slightly longer though but for general texting, GPRS/EDGE is enough. In fact, the WIFI function comes in handy when you require faster access. We used Google Maps in replacement of the maps application that comes with the phone. In the multimedia department, the 2 mega pixel camera with no flash nor auto focus did not fail too badly. In fact, I was quite surprised by the quality under normal lighting. Even indoor photos turns out to be pretty decent at 2 megapixel. The music playback is shocking loud for a small phone. The auto on/off and alarm clock also makes it a good replacement of your PDA. In conclusion, this phone is definitely a good tool for push mail and social networking on the go. Other than no 3G and touch screen features and FM Radio, this phone has most of the requirements of the Gen Y texting youths. This phone is currently offered at entry level price points with M1 Take 3 plan SunLite/SunSaver plans for 24 mths.
