Review Conclusion of
Samsung Pixon M8800 8 mega pixel camera phone
OCWorkbench team 8 Dec 2008
Conclusion
If you wanted to buy the InnoV8, the slider 8 mega pixel camera
phone, this is another alternative that you can consider as it has the similar
features of the Innov8 but comes in the form of a larger screen with touch
screen features.
First of all,
this phone supports the latest HSDPA at
7.2Mbps which is the highest available right now. If you are subscribed to HSDPA plans e.g. M1 broadband,
Singtel Mobile broadband, you will be able to use the phone
as a wireless modem with speedy connection of up to 7.2Mbps. Although the upload
speed is not mentioned in the specifications, we suspect it should be 384kbps.
With a press on the side button, the shutter opens and takes
brilliant pictures. One problem with most camera phones is the slowness in
focusing. This phone took me by surprise as it is able to focus fast in an
indoor shopping mall where lighting is pretty poor. Avoid blur pictures with the
advance shake reduction feature. The Macro mode also took nice close up shots of
the PC components or letterings on the mainboards. Other than picture taking,
this camera is able to do video recording at 120fps @QVGA. It can record with a
resolution 720x480 which is a wide screen format.
One nice thing about Samsung phones is that it allows you to
playback the images captured or videos through the TV Out on the phone itself.
The player supports playback of MPEG4, WMV, DivX, XviD.
Thus you can turn this phone into a PMP (portable media player).
In terms of applications, there are the usual Google apps
which are already preinstalled. e.g. Search, Mail, Map. There is also the web
browser, FM radio, live pix, video editor, voice recorder, RSS reader etc. For
multimedia playback, it supports (MP3, AAC, e-AAC+, e-AAC+,
WMA), FM Radio with RDS and DNSe™ (Digital Natural Sound engine). For video
playback, it supports DiVX format.
Overall, the phone is an all rounder just like the InnoV8.
There are lots of similarities between the two except that it is a touch screen
and does not come with WiFi. It has FM Radio with RDS, InnoV8 does not come with
FM Radio. It also uses a proprietary OS whereas Innov8 is based on Symbian.
