Review Conclusion
of Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6
Intel X48 chipset mainboard Conclusion
Gigabyte again, is the first to launch it's X48 chipset mainboard. With added new features like the XMP technology, DES, the GA-X48T-DQ6 is improved to support the newer processors. Not only that the DES helps to conserve energy with it's multi gear phase power design. In addition, EasyTune 5 Pro now include support for graphics card overclocking, you now have one central tool to o/c everything from the same interface. In terms of performance, we wouldn't find much difference as we were comparing it to a P35T board using a PCIe Gen 1 card the 8600GTS (we did not have time to test the 8800GT on P35 to see the diff. of PCIe gen 1 and 2). With Gen 2 support and more cards supporting the Gen 2 interface, the performance would improve. Features wise, the board also comes with plenty of expansion options. It supports ATI CrossFireX™with Dual PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphics for extreme gaming performance. It also features SATA 3Gb/s with Quad eSATA2 interface, ALC 889Awith DTS Connect enables high quality Full Rate Lossless Audio and support for both Blu-ray and HD DVD. There is also Quad BIOS for an extended level of protection, Quad-Triple Phase Power Design for ultimate system stability. There is a Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN with Teaming functionality. There are a lot of overclocking features on this board. In fact, if you look at the gallery, there are so many options which can be fine tuned. Unfortunately, not every setting is documented. You would need to do some trial and error to find the best suitable settings. Alternatively, you can just use the easytune 5 pro to overclock the CPU. For overclocking, we managed to overclock the Yorkfield QX9770 processor to 422x10 using the BIOS. We can get the system to POST at 450x10 (4.5GHz). In Vista, we can further tune it up to 449 x 10. When we test for 450x10, the system dumps a blue screen and rebooted. With a E6300, the max FSB reached is 525 x 6, that is similar to the other Gigabyte P35 and P965 boards we tested before. Looks like it is the limit of the E6300. In conclusion, Gigabyte has put up an impressive board that is future proof. It is definitely a board of choice for overclockers too.
