Conclusion of Shuttle SN68PTG6 Deluxe
GeForce 7050PV-630A chipset Review Conclusion
Shuttle has come out with a all in one HTPC solution that appeals to enthusiasts. It not only comes with plentiful of features, ranging from GbE to 1394, eSATA to Finger print recognition, it also has WIFI, Bluetooth and HDMI support out of the box! In the performance department, the Shuttle SN68PTG6 Deluxe works just like any other 7050PV-630A mainboard we have tested before. As we have not tested any other 7050PV-630A in the VISTA platform, we cross reference to the boards that were previously tested under the XP platform. Other than 3Dmark05/06, the scores are generally similar for the games. Installation of the unit is rather straightforward as the cabling is already all done up for you. Just plug in the HDD and you are ready to go. The heatsink is also easy to install, in fact, it reminds me of the old days using my first SS40 XPC. The installation hasn't changed much from the old days.
Although the SN68PTG6 is a XPC, it did not lock down the overclocking options in the BIOS. Instead, it does come with a reasonable amount of options for you to tweak the system. In our case, we managed to get the VISTA stable at 250x10. Although we can POST at 260, 250X10 is the sweet spot for the X2 4000+. Click here to see BIOS Screen shots. You can also tweak the fan speed. I set it to the lowest speed and it is almost noiseless. Shuttle SN68PTG6 has included all the necessary cables all wired up within the box. In it's packaging, it included a easy to read installation guide, antenna for WIFI, CD, plug converter and a DVI-HDMI converter. Documentation seems to be a bit lacking as we had a hard time trying to figure out how to get the finger print system working. At last, we found the additional documentation was in the installation CD. Overall, this XPC is a nice box to own. If you find the decoding to be a bit to slow, a X2 5000+ or 6400+ would be a better bet. In addition, you can use an external graphics card to have better decoding and 3D gaming performance. Just note that the graphics card does not have a 2 slot design, it might not fit that well.
