2nd Generation UMPC

EIf you have seen our Computex coverage, you would have seen that AMD has a number of small form factor notebooks on display. As it is at the AMD booth, you wouldn't call them UMPC really.

Anyway, Raon Digital, a Korean company has come out with this unit call Everun which works just like a UMPC and has a small footprint. It is larger than a traditional PDA but smaller than a notebook.

Based on the AMD 600MHz Geode LX900 processor, this unit is loaded with XP Home edition and can run all the office applications. The unit comes with 60GB of SSD and a 4.8" TFT LCD Screen with auto screen rotation for comfortable viewing. It also has a optical mouse and a QWERTY keypad.

For mobile users, this unit already comes with 802.11b/g connectivity and bluetooth 2.0. If you are in Singapore, HK or USA where there is HSDPA network, you can buy an optional kit that allows you to surf the net at a blazing speed of up to 3.6Mbps.

EVERUN adopts an optical touch mouse for the first time in the PC industry which allows for greater ease and accessibility for you. You can find all the function keys you may expect from desk or notebook PCs: scroll, zooming, arrow, page up/down and so on. Even the arrow key buttons function as a joy pad so that game enthusiasts can enjoy their hobby anywhere.

For those who loves to watch Divx movies, this unit we tried did playback movies pretty well with its 600MHz processor. On top of that, you can playback MP3, View photos and play some PC games on it.

With a size of only 170 (W) x 83 (H) x 25 (D) which weighs 460 to 500 g (including battery), this unit is definitely worth considering. Battery life is 7 hrs for standard battery or 12 hrs for a larger battery.

This gadget is now available at Comex show in Singapore at SGD1288 for the 30GB with AMD LX800 processor or the Std 60G and AMD LX900 at SGD1638.
