The new champion QX9770

With AMD releasing their new Phenom processors, Intel is not keeping quiet and staying put to the competition. In Q1 2008, Intel will launch the QX9770.

The Intel Extreme processor QX9770 is technically similar to the QX9650 which we reviewed some time ago at OCWorkbench. The major difference is that it clocks at 400MHz with a multiplier of 8x. That gives it a default clock of 3.2GHz.

Here is a look at the tech spec of the new processor:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9770

--3.2 GHz, 1600 FSB, quad-core
--45nm high-K metal gate transistor technology
--12MB L2 cache
--SSE4 instructions
--820M transistors
--214mm2 die size
--LGA775 socket, 130W TDP, “C-step”
--Overspeed protection removed
--Supported by either Intel® P35 or Intel X38 chipsets, contact your board manufacturer for compatibility

The specification of QX9770 is identical to QX9650 except that the TDP of QX9770 will be a slightly higher 136W. The thermal requirements are also slightly higher driven by the higher frequency. The ‘psi_ca’ measure is slightly different too. If you have questions, please contact Intel PRM. Tech specs and voltage, etc are identical to QX9650.
