ECS AMD690GM-M2 Integrated graphics mainboard (AMD 690G) Review - Overclocking

Overclocking

As shown in the gallery pages, weare restricted to a window of 200 ~ 230MHz for HTT. CPU Vcore can also be set up to a maximum of 1.40v for our X2 4000+. This seems to be the limitation of mATX designs from ECS.

In our test, we boosted the HTT to 230MHz and was able to get it running stable at 2.3GHz. That is with the all voltages and HT multiplier set to 5x. ECS could have opened up the HTT range for users who wishes to o/c it further. Our X2 4000+ is capable of 2.8GHz. (10x280) on most of the oc boards.

For the integrated video, we explored ways to tune up the GPU clk. Although we see options in the BIOS allowing a maximum of 500MHz for the GPU CLK. Setting it to 500MHz did not give us any breakthrough in results. The difference is within 1fps. It seems that the BIOS setting did not help at all.

Using ATItool, the tool is able to read 400MHz off but it can't set the GPU CLK.

Finally, we got hold of a tool from ATi which is able to detect the GPU CLK and change both GPU and GDDR clk.

We managed to push the GPU CLK to 573/400. Default is 400/400. Changing the ram speed did not really help to boost the GPU performance, instead it create more tearing and instability to the system. Our final scores for 3dMark06

At 400/400 : 307 (141/na/1535)
At 573/400 : 332 (153/na/1536)

That is almost a 8% increase in performance.
