CPU FSB is still a valid and important criteria when judging systems performance. We measured the CPU FSB and documented it as below in 4 different boards and noticed the CPU CLK. As it is a Conroe X6800, the default FSB is rated at 266MHz. As shown below, the three boards has set its default clk quite differently. The ASRock Conroe1333-DVI/H runs at 267.9 while the Jetway 965GDAG runs at 266.5, Gigabyte GA-945G-S3 at 268 and ASRock ConRoe945G-DVI at 265.8. How will this impact the performance?

In the following tests, other than the Jetway 965GDAG which is a G965 chipset mainboard running at DDR2-800, the 3 other boards are configured to run at CAS 3, 3-3-8, 1T SYNC DDR2-533 using a X6800 processor.

The three boards are based on different chipsets. Although Intel has specified i975x and i965p official supports the Core2 Duo processor, the older chipsets like the 945P?G and VIA PT880Pro are used on the ASRock boards. Below are the benchmarks done on the Sandra 2007 memory benchmark.

We chose to run it at DDR2-533 is because the memory is running at 1:1 ratio, that is to say in SYNC with the CPU. Although one might get a slightly higher score in this benchmark if you choose to run in ASync mode say DDR2-667, there isn't much difference in the performance, in fact, it might get a bit slower in some benchmarks.

From the chart below, we can see that the numbers are simialr to the ConroeXFire-eSATA2 when paired up with an external graphics card. The board is also benchmarked with its integrated graphics and we got a score of 5087/5073.
