Conclusion

ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ as we have tested showed a pretty good performance in real tests. This is quite a surprise for us as the initial results gives just an average reading among the boards tested.

This board, as mentioned supports the the FX, X2, 64, Sempron. It is AMD LIVE! Ready, supports CnQ. It supports a HT of 1GHz and has overclocking features. The board supports 4 DIMM slots with up to a max of 16GB of DDRII-800/667/533.

The featured packed board comes in addition of 1394 and the HDMI_SPDIF. The bundle also comes with a USB/1394 bracket for external connections. 4 SATA II cables are also provided. Although thick and heavy, the multilanguage manual is useful for quick installation for the non native English reader.

In our overclocking tests, we got lucky with this board. The board POSTed even at 10x300 but only stable at 275x10 for our X2 4000+ CPU. In another test, the system can POST at 325 x 5. This is again a pleasant surprise for us as our X2 4000+ never POSTED beyond 299MHz x any multipier on any other board. In the oc test, the CPU was ran at 1.4v, RAM at DDR2-400 Async. The BIOS auto options will automatically set the HT multiplier to prevent HT link from going to far from the 1GHz mark. The board also has a feast of options in the BIOS. BIOS screens shots can be seen here.

Overall, the board performed well. The board seems to have great potential for overclocking if it has more voltage options. Probably adding a bit more voltage will make it more stable at higher speeds.
