Vizo Opera Portable
Media Player Review 5/5
Conclusion Vizo Opera is an interesting product. Although Vizo is not the first company to release such a product, Vizo has put in effort to make installation a breeze. This is probably due to the documentation. The type of file system to use and the functions that can be found on it. For the past days, we have spent time watching movies and playing back MP3 from the device. Most of the DIVX/XVID files had no issues except for one which is recognised as GMC format. It did play but square blocks starts appearing. I made a check on the documentation and it says that this format is not supported. Just like most of the devices out there in the market, this device does not support MOV, RMVB. The following formats are supported :MPEG-4 (*.asf,*.avi) MPEG4 (*.mp4), DivX pro3.11, 4.x 5.x (*AVI or *.divx), XVID (*AVI) and WMV9 (*.wmv), DVD format (*.VOB), VCD format (*.DAT), WMA, MP3, JPG. Loading of files is pretty quick too. One disappointment is the GOTO function on the remote does not allow me to jump direct into the xx Min of the movie. Another thing that we noted is the low volume output from the RCA jacks. It seems that at a max of 15 out of 15, the output level is still very soft. Perhaps a newer firmware can get this sorted out. Upgrading of firmware is pretty straightforward too. Users can download the latest firmware DVDROM.BIN and place it on any partition of the HDD. Browse the directory and it will automatically detect the file and ask if you want to upgrade the firmware. Select X or O to ans NO or YES respectively. It would really be good if the device can be battery operated as you still need a power jack to playback movies. Overall, this device is really compact and small. With its carrier, it is easy to bring it around while travelling and watch your favourite moveis from the Hotel TV screen anytime, anywhere. Pricing (US) Pricing (UK) Pros
