Singapore, December 12, 2006 – Samsung today
reinforced its technology leadership with the launch of the world’s first HSDPA
(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) handset - SGH-Z560, and the first consumer
trial of HSDPA phones with M1 for 200 Singaporeans to experience this new
technology. Samsung first unveiled the HSDPA phone at 3GSM 2006, and now it will
be the first HSDPA handset available in the Singapore market. The one-month
trial period will begin from 19 December. The latest SGH-Z560 supports up to
1.8Mbps data throughput and comes in an extremely slim design. With a depth of a
mere 16mm, the handset incorporates stylish design with cutting-edge technology.
Advanced features such as a 2 mega-pixel camera with auto focus, music player
and microSD external memory slot are built in.
The exterior is enhanced by the music player’s illuminating light touch music
keys and large 65K colour TFT screen. With the amazing data download speed,
consumers can enjoy smooth streaming of their favourite multimedia content on
the phone displayed on the optimal size of the 2.3-inch 262K colour QVGA TFT-LCD
screen, making the SGH-Z560 an ideal choice for mobile entertainment. Mr. Ng
Long Shyang, Director, Sales & Marketing, Telecommunications & IT Products, SET
Division, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd said: “Samsung’s newest HSDPA phone has
state-of-the-art technology with great sophistication. We are happy to lead the
HSDPA phone market and we will bring amazing innovations based on our expertise
in the latest 3.5G technology to our mobile users’ daily life.” HSDPA also
enables consumers to use the SGH-Z560 as a dial-up modem on the move, gaining
high-speed wireless Internet access comparable to the speed of fixedline ADSL
services anytime, anywhere. This means that busy executives can now save
time with faster connections and higher-speed downloads.
Participating users in the trial programme will have access to an M1 mobile
portal that has been re-coded to suit the higher speeds and download exclusive
mobile content, screensavers of Captain Tsubasa shown on ANIMAX and MediaCorp
serials such as Maggie & Me. “With the availability of the HSDPA-enabled Samsung
SGH-Z560, this is a great opportunity for early adopters to have a first-hand
experience of mobile content delivered via the high-speed network,” said Sharon
Tan, director of consumer marketing, M1.
To be among the 200 to be selected to try the service, M1 customers can now
apply through the M1 website at www.m1.com.sg from December 1-15, 2006.
The SGH-Z560 is now available at a recommended retail price of $648 with a
two-year contract or $748 without contract.
