M2A481 (AMD 480X) Review Intro 2/6
Gallery The Jetway M2A481 is based on the ATi RD480+SB600 chipset. After AMD's acquisition, it is named AMD 480X chipset. So from now on, we will be referencing it as 480X. Firstly, lets take a look at the mainboard. On tht top left corner,w e can see the audio codec, IO control and GbE PHy chip. There are two yellow coloured PCIe x16 slots which can be used to run CrossFire in DUal 8X mode or as a single PCIe x16 mode with a peddle card inserted into the slot furthest away from the CPU. There are 2 PCI slots and 1 PCie x1 available. On the left of the 1st PCI slot, you will find all the Audio connectors, SPDIF connector, Parallel port connector and 3 USB port connetors. At the bottom of the mainboard, you will see the CMOS Battery, south bridge SB600,4 SATAII ports, debug led for diagnostics. On the right hand top corner, you will find the solid caps, a 8 pin AUX power. At the centre is the RD480 chipset. Below At the bottom of the board, we see 4 DIMM slots supporting up to 4GB of DC-DDR2-800. There is 1 IDE channel and 6 SATA II ports in RAID 0,1,0+1 array. The back panel consists of PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse, 4 USB ports, 1 x GbE LAN port and 8 ch audio ports. The empty portion where the LPT1 is usually found is for DIY to mount cooling fan to cool the capacitors. Next >>>
