Architecture

The Radeon X1950 Pro has an engine clk of 575MHz and a memory clk of 1380MHz. It will use 256MB GDDR3. Display connectors includes DVI-I + DVI-I + VIVO. It will have Dual Link DVI and HDCP support. System interface is a PCIe X16.

The X1950 Pro GPU is manufactured in 80nm processor. It is based on RV570 and has 36 pixel shaders. It comes with Fast Dynamic Branching, HDR +AA support and Native 10 bits processing.

X1950 Pro supports native CrossFire support. Something different from the past is that X1950 Pro is the first to use a pair of CrossFire interconnect bridge in replacement of the cables. This simplifies CrossFire experience. This concept is somewhat similar to SLI on the NV cards but offers more flexibility.

The CrossFire interconnect is a flexible piece of cabling rather than the rigid SLI connector you find on SLI platforms. With a pair of it, you can hook up two X1950 Pro in CrossFire mode even if they are placed on two PCIe slots that are 2 slots apart.

NV's SLI is a single piece of hardware while ATi requires you to have 2 bridges or interconnects. So why 2 instead of 1? According to ATi, each interconnect is 12 bits wide and for two you have 24 bits. The reason for 2 interconnects is because it will be possible to daisy chain more than 2 GPUs in the future when it can scale better, said ATi. It can also support up to a max. resolution of 2560x2048 at 60Hz in CrossFire mode.
