Benchmarks - XMPEG with DIVX 6.4

XMPEG is another utility which can be used with external codecs to encode mpeg1/2 videos to target format depending on which external codec is used.

In our test, we used the Xmpeg with the latest DIVX 6.4 codec. With XMEG, it is possible to set parameters of the Divx 6.4 encoder such that it will encode using the most high quality settings.

In our test, we encode a Mpeg2 transport stream (1280x544) video clip to 1080HD mode using Insane Quality.  We convert chapter 2 of the T2 Extreme edition.

ASUS Striker Extreme took 15 secs to complete while the Gigaybte GA-965P-DQ6 took around 18 secs. Looks like NVIDIA has got their memory controller right this time round. The ECS PN2 SLI2+ using the same chipset took 1 more sec to complete.

In another test usign the DIVX converter that comes with DIVX 6.4, we convert the file ABC.TS (1280x544) to DIVX HD. Below are the timings.

The ASUS Striker Extreme is slightly faster than the Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 but it is 15 secs slower than the ECS PN2 SLI2+. The surprise is that the ASRock 4Core Dual-VSTA slashed the timing down by almost 1 min as it runs at CAS 3, 3-3-8 1T DDR2-533 instead of the CAS 5,5-5-15-2T on other boards.
