ASUS P5B
Deluxe WiFi-AP Edition (i965P) Review Benchmarks 10/10
Conclusion ASUS P5B Deluxe is a scale down version of the 975X P5W DH Deluxe. Both share a similar feature set with P5W DH Deluxe having a higher end Dual 8x PCIe and has a Hardware RAID Controller. In terms of features, there is also 1394 controller chipset, 7.1ch HD audio codec, two Marvell GbE PHY and one Jmicron JBM363 chipset and WIFI access. The heatpipe design with a 8 phase power design for maximum stability also makes this board outstanding among the competitors. This board has many SATA II ports. In fact there are 6 SATA ports, 4 supported by the ICH8R and 2 SATAII+1 IDE supported by the Jmicron JMB363 chipset. In terms of performance, the ASUS P5B Deluxe performs well in comparison with the other boards. The results are all comparable with the other boards tested although it falls behind the NV based board especially in the 3D tests. The board has plenty of overclocking options. With the ES CPU, we can lower the multiplier and increase the FSB and run the RAM at ASYNC mode. In our test, we set the multiplier to its default of 6x. The cpu voltage is set to 1.2v, RAM is set to AUTO and we were able to get it stable at 490x6. It can actually go higher but it seems that my X6800 doesn't like high FSB. Maybe a E6300 would do better. (This is to test how far can the FSB go beyond the standard 200MHz).
Overall, the board works well with feast of functions that could come
useful. This board is definitely a choice for the performance users who needs
the processing power of the Core 2 Duo. Video editors will definitely love the
1394 port. With Dual GbE, you can run it as a router or gateway and use the WiFI
to act as a access point too. Other than the steep price, I am impressed. Pros
