Nokia 3230 GSM 900/1800/1900 Symbian Camera Phone (5)
Bluetooth 13 Apr 2005

Conclusion

Based on the Symbian OS, the Nokia 3230 has improved over the past Symbian phone designs. Some of the newer features that were absent on the previous 6260 were megapixel camera, AAC, MP3 ringtone support. Being a Symbian phone, this phone has a vast range of ready applications available. Together with the number of Java applications available, it makes the phone the ultimate platform for developers. Although the 6260 comes with a number of applications like Quickword, they are missing on the 3230. These applications can be bought online if needed.

The phone also comes with an external 32M RSMMC card which allows you to store video captures and images. Transferring of images and ringtones is made easy by copying files directly into the card's folders from a PC card reader that supports it.

This phone comes with a FM tuner radio. You can activate the radio by selecting Visual Radio from the menu. You can download through GPRS a list of stations in your region and select the stations directly instead of tuning it manually. Although the radio can operate in stereo, the Realplayer playback MP3, AAC files in MONO mode. MP3, AAC, AMR, MIDI can be used as ring tones.

With its 1.3mpixel camera, you can take pretty good pictures and short video clips. Although the phone does not come with a white led, photos taken in the night appears Ok. SMS text messaging is easy and straightforward for all Nokia phones. One thing interesting is that this Symbian phone actually supports simplified Chinese input and display.

The 3230 allows you to transfer files, be it ringtones, java, mp3, images to and from the phone without the need of an additional software installed on PC. You can share all sort of media, contacts etc with friends just by beaming it using IrDA. All the files are dropped into the message inbox (beamed) and you can re-beamed them to your friends. Alternatively, you can transfer the MP3 or other files (jar, jpg, gif etc) using the MMC card attached to a PC card reader.

Who says Symbian phones are fat and bulky ? This statement no longer stand.
