Introduction

Most readers might already be aware of the AVG Free Anti Virus software that is widely installed on PCs worldwide. Although it is free, it gives users a peace of mind when dealing with viruses infections of PCs. While most people like freebies, AVG provides even more functionalities in their Professional edition of the software.

As we can see from the chart below, the professional edition provides a 2 yrs license and includes tech support. Most importantly, they allow you to download from high speed servers which is much faster. I once downloaded one patch at 230KBps on my 2Mbits cable. This is important as new viruses do not pick a day or time to pop out on the net.

For those who assemble systems for resale, the OEM installation might come handy. The scheduler on the Professional edition is also flexible instead of the once a day on the Free edition. You could also defined your tests instead of the pre defined ones on the free edition. There is also an advanced user interface on the Professional edition and more settings can be made. There is also a detailed report of the scan as compared to a basic one on the Free edition.

Version 7.1 comes with new additional changes to the existing 7.0. It improved the download speed of patterns and on top of that, it comes with a "unwanted programmes scanner" which acts like a malware detection programme. Read on for more information about the new additions to 7.1
