Installation

Installation is quite straightforward. If you are clear about wireless routers, then you should be confused at all. Basically the card sits on the PCI bus. After plugging in all the power cable and connectors, the device manager will detect a PCI BUS card. You do not need to look for any drivers in the CDROM as the device does not use the PCI bus except for its standby voltage.

Behind the card are two ethernet ports. The LAN port should be connected to a notebook where you can configure the router. In my case, I connect the LAN port using the supplied ethernet cable to the on board Gigabit Ethernet port. Once that is done, I can configure the router using HTTP at http://192.168.1.254

The router supports WEP and has some basic firewall features built in. You may also want to consider the WDS which allows you to extend your wireless network coverage if you are already using another access point which supports WDS.

Other features supported are

  • 64 / 128-bit WEP
  • Wi-Fi® Protected Access (WPA)
  • Dynamic DNS
  • UPnP™ (Universal Plug and Play)
  • Network Address Translation (NAT)
  • VPN pass-through
  • URL address blocking**
  • WDS bridging**
  • 802.1x**
