ECS PF88 SiS 656
Mainboard Review 2/7
Benchmarks Before you read on, it is important to understand that the benchmarks done are more of a comparison between two LGA775 boards using the i925XE chipset versus the SiS 656. Something you ought to bear in mind is that the EPoX board runs at a higher fsb of 201.8 by default whereas the ECS PF88 runs at 199.6 as registered. The following readings are obtained using CPU-Z.
We used a pair of Corsair CM2X512A-4300C3Pro DDR2 memory running at CAS 3, 8-3-3 at default (18 x 201.8) and at CAS 3, 8-4-4 for the ECS PF88 at a memory frequency of DDR2-533 with a ratio of 400:533. During our first test, the results were around 3900+. After fine tuning the BIOS (see introduction pages 4 to 6), we managed to tune up the memory running stable. As ECS PF88 is a Hybrid board, we would expect latency to be introduced either through the longer trace lines or the group of jumpers for disabling the Elite BUS. Another possibility would be the BIOS is not optimised enough as yet.
