ECS Scalable Dual Graphics Engine (SDGE) with KN2 SLI Extreme 1/3
Bluetooth 5 Sep 2005

Intro

During our visit to ECS at Computex, we spoke to ECS on the possibility of having a low cost Dual SLI x 16 solution for the masses. Although we were aware of the technical possibilities at that time, it was not right to openly discuss it on forums.

Today, I present you what ECS has been doing, the secret weapon to recapture the market with innovative designs.

As you guys all know, ECS was pretty successful all the while delivering very interesting boards to the market. One of such is the ECS PF88 basded on the SiS solutions. This solution is something that you and I couldn't dream of, to make a board that can be upgradable or switchable from Intel to AMD platform through an upgrade slot. This can be done as we have a common South Bridge, that is the SiS 964/965.

The same concept can be applied to other chipsets since most of them are based on NB-SB pairs or they are based on some common standards. We have also seen pairs of NB-SB giving native PCIe and AGP 8x. So it is possible, it is just how far you want to go about it and how well it will be acceptable in the market.

In the following pages, we will take a look at ECS's SDGE - Scalable Dual Graphics Engine.
