An interview with Danny Lee of XGI Technologies.
Q: What are we going to expect to see from XGI product line that can counter
those from ATi and NVidia. What would be the performance targetted at ?
A: Next year, we see PCIE Native as the trend. Thus, our next year product will
focus on the PCIE Native. So we are ready to satisfy this mainstream market.
Our first product XG47 (Q1) will be Shader model 2.0 and the XG45 (Q2) will be
Shader Model 3.0.
XG45 is the higher model and XG47 is the lower. XG45 targets the X700 and G6600
and XG47 targets X300 and G6200.
Q: So far, which are the partners that has more or less confirmed with the
production of the PCI-E graphics cards ?
A: Since everything is still undergoing without solid contracts, we cannot
disclose this information.
Q: Is XGI committed in providing driver support to some non Windows based
platform ? What about 64 bits Windows.
A: Yes, we will support them.
Q: Some people out there says you guys cheats with benchmarks, what are you
comments abt that?
A: There are always positive and negative rumours. Competitions always spread
negative rumours about one another.
Q: You know we have always seen that Xabre series of performance being
integrated onto SiS based mainboards. What are the chances of having the new
graphics core being integrated on SIS boards
A: SiS and XGI are two seperate companies now. Our RD teams are totally
seperated. However, collaboration between tech companies is common. So
collaboration with another tech company is possible, but SiS is just like any
other possible partners.
Q: What is your view about SLI ? How does Duo compare with SLI. In your view,
which technology is better ?
A: We will not focus on SLI at all because the market is too small and not what
we are looking for. We want to target what the main stream market is driving and
what our customers' needs are and focus on them.
We think SLI is not very cost effective and it only targets the extreme high end
market. Duo is very cost effective and targets the high market. So they are
different market sectors. However, we think it's too costly to develop SLI and
target only a small market sector. Thus, our market focus would be on the
mid/high end market sector.
Q: Tell us if XGI will implement DUO technology onto the PCI-E cards.
A: There were some review sites that twisted my words about future Duo
technology. However, they twisted my saying and claim that XGI is “Not Going to
Develop Duo Technology.”
Duo technology is always in our designers' minds, however, depending on the
market, internal decision. We will see whether we will apply it on PCIE.
