Sony Ericsson P910i Triband GSM 900/1800/1900 PDA Camera phone (5)
Bluetooth 1 Nov 2004

Conclusion

The Sony Ericsson P910i is an upgraded version of the P900 phone which centres around the Symbian OS. As a  PDA and phone, Sony Ericsson has taken into consideration the best of both worlds integrated into a gadget. The P910i adds on the support of 1GB Memory Duo Stick and an flip-on keyboard. The flip on keyboard is small and in reality, I wonder how many would use it for SMS text messaging.

Based on the Symbian OS, this platform has tons of productivity applications out on the net for trial or purchase. P910i comes with some and it allows me to view PDF files and edit excel/word files. Well, looks like we will be busy on trains editing our contracts and proposals as it is word and excel friendly.

Although this phone is more like a PDA, it does come with voice recording, video recording and camera functions. With its built in camera, I can take i would say pretty good photos at VGA resolution. Video recording can be done as well and recorded in MP4 format.

For connectivity, it has almost everything but it lacks WiFi support. As we know, most PDAs nowadays WiFi integrated. Without this option of Internet access, the PDA can be crippled in a way unless you want to access the net via GPRS. Having an alternative is always better than having none.

The P910i supports Quickshare technology which enables you to transfer files, be it ringtones, java, mp3, images to and from the phone without the need of an additional software installed on PC. You can share all sort of media, contacts etc with friends just by beaming it using IrDA. I installed Opera browser and German language pack by beaming the SiS files into the phone using infra-red. Unfortunately, there is no Chinese language pack. All the files are dropped into the message inbox (beamed) and you can re-beamed them to your friends. Alternatively, you can transfer the MP3 or other files (jar, jpg, gif etc) using the memory stick duo using a card reader which supports up to 1GB storage.

The MIDI ringtone is exceptionally loud and is comparable to the Samsung. In fact, the MIDI ringtones are the best among all the phones because it uses wavetable playback. MP3 files can be used as ringtones as well and they are really nice.  The only pity is that it does not support WMA format which I use on my PC.

  • Ringtones are LOUD

  • MP3 Ringtone

  • Memory expansion using memory stick

Cons :
