Samsung LS15M13C 15" LCD TV (2)
Bluetooth 11 May 2004

Setup

The first thing that everyone needs to do is to setup the TV. First we plug in either the cable point or antenna cable to the back of the TV set. Next, we would have to tune in to the channels using either automatic or manual means.

To simplify it, LS15M13C provides a plug-and-play feature which is accessible from the menu here (fifth option). After which, it will ask you to set the current date and time and do a scan of all the channels the tv is able to pick up.

Once that is done, you may want to fine tune the channels, sort the channels, name the channels (as shown in the photo below)

If you find the image too bright, you can adjust them accordingly to suit your eyes.

You can zoom the image. The picture gets elogated

Three preset contrast and brightness levels are built into it for easy selection

The system supports Fastext which allows you to program 4 coloured buttons for instant access to the pages you need.

We setup the component video playing back DVD. The quality is very good.

Conclusion

We all know that LCD are less glaring and looks sleek and takes up less space. After using a conventional TV for so many years, I would definitely switch to LCD TV. Samsung LS15M13C is quite a good one to begin with for my room. A larger screen would be good for the hall.

The LS15M13C has all the capabilities of a modern TV and its image quality and colours are excellent. The only complain is the lack of bass in the speakers. That is probably due to the small wattage speakers. You might consider plugging it out to a Hi-Fi through the speaker port at the side of the panel.

Pricing of LCD TVs are still quite steep compared to the CRTs. So, if you are willing to spend more as there are more advantages of LCD TVs, I would recommend this unit.

The 15-inch model has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels and a contrast ratio of 400:1. It also has horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 110 and 140 degrees. It costs S$1,229.

The 20-inch version has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, a 500:1 contrast ratio, and horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 160 and 140 degrees. Available for S$2,199.
