Nokia 6260 GSM
900/1800/1900 Symbian Camera Phone (5)
Conclusion The Nokia 6260 can be considered an improved version of the Nokia 6600. Based on the Symbian OS, this phone accepts a wide range of applications already available. Together with the number of Java applications available, the 6260 has more than enough applications in all categories. In fact, this phone comes built in with more applications that can be used immediately. They include a word viewer Quickword and a Powerpoint viewer software Quickpoint. Others include PrintKodak printed at Kodak booth. The phone also comes with an external MMC card which allows you to store video captures and images. The challenge is when you want to take VGA 640x480 pixels images, you must be in Browse Mode. All other photos in other modes will be in 480x360. As the lens is built on the side of the phone, it is difficult to take VGA photos since you wouldn't know what you are taking without the LCD protruding (camera mode). An improvement over the 6600 is that this phone comes with a Fm tuner radio. Although the radio can operate in stereo, the MP3 player will only playback in MONO mode. I have read stories that Stereo MP3 files won't play smoothly and you would need to convert them to MONO before transferring them into the phone. While every other manufacturer is going for Stereo and Surround sound for MP3 as ringtones, this phone still relies on AMR audio format for wav like ringtones. Alternatively you can use MIDI as ringtone. SMS text messaging is easy and straightforward for all Nokia phones. One thing interesting is that this Symbian phone actually supports simplified Chinese input and display. The 6260 allows you to transfer files, be it ringtones, java, mp3, images to and from the phone without the need of an additional software installed on PC. You can share all sort of media, contacts etc with friends just by beaming it using IrDA. All the files are dropped into the message inbox (beamed) and you can re-beamed them to your friends. Alternatively, you can transfer the MP3 or other files (jar, jpg, gif etc) using the MMC card attached to a PC card reader. Overall, a good Symbian phone which has no lack of tools to use with.
