Speed increases as technology improves. Together with the dreams of storing more on a disc, Gigabyte GO-W1608A fulfills it without any doubts. The GO-W1608A is the latest offering by Gigabyte which offers support of 16x DVD±R disc and Dual Layer disc of up to 8.ith this in mind, we needed a drive that is able to burn steadily yet fast enough to be used as a back up device and allow us to make backup copies of our favourite DVD discs up to 8.54G of data.

Gigabyte GO-W1608A leverages on its W0808A series and upgraded its support to 16X DVD+R writing, 8X DVD-R writing and 2.4X DVD+R (DL) writing. Below are the reading and writing speeds of various media.

Writing -  DVD+R 16x, DVD+R (DL) 2.4x, DVD-R 8x, CD-R 48x, CD-RW 24x
Reading - DVD±R 16x, DVD+R (DL) 6x, DVD±RW 8x, CD-R 48x, CD-RW 32x

Gigabyte's W1608A also boosts a few other features like I.B.S, I-speed, i-burn and VRS.

I.B.S technology stands for Intelligent Burning SuperLink Technolgoy uses a buffer with synchornisation, this solves the problem of burning problems due to buffer under run.

I-Speed technology will auto tune the speed of the drive during burning and playback of CD or DVD. When playing CD or DVD, it will auto adjust to lower speed for better reading and noiseless operation. When testing for speed and performance, it will auto tune for maximum reading speed. While copying CD or DVDs, it auto adjusts to higher speed for best quality and shortest burning time.

Gigabyte i-Burn technolgoy will automatically check the disk quality and adjust optimal burning speed. This prevents burning unusable disc and it will autoi select/adjust burning parameter. It also helps to protect the laser head from overload.

VRS (Vibration Reduction System) & Ultra Quiet reduces vibration when device loads at high speeds. This enhances system stability and improve performance effectively. Intelligent fan and low vibration of GO-1608 offers users quiet performance

The drive is generally shallower in depth and have the same dimensions as the W0808A. This definitely helps a lot if you were to install it into a SFF since the back of the drive won't be blocking the air flow of the CPU heatsink.
