EPoX 5EGA+ i915G Socket 775 Mainboard Review (7)
Conclusion EPoX 5EGA+ can be said as a board the bridges the old and new as it uses the conventional DDR400 as we already revealed before that DDR2 does not bring much performance gains considering the high price. With its integrated video, it allows users to upgrade to PCI-E graphcis card when they are more readily and pricing is more acceptable. Features-wise, the EPoX 5EGA+ is probably the only board we come across that features not only SATA RAID but IDE RAID as well. This is definitely a plus especially when the price of SATA HDD are generally slightly more expensive and does not perform much better than its IDE counterpart. It also has Gigabit Ethernet, 8 ch audio 8 USB ports etc on board. Overclocking wise, the EPoX 5EGA+ comes equipped in PowerBIOS all the features that overclockers love to have. They include all the voltage adjustments and an amazing FSB range adjustable up to 350MHz FSB. There is no FIX PCI-E or PCI. This makes most Intel 915G difficult to overclock. We down the multiplier to 14x and increase the FSB to 230, it still boots. Anything higher makes it unstable. Just like the EPoX 8KDA3+, the package comes with tiny heatsinks for the MOSFETs and a screwdriver. This is what I call BUILT FOR USERS. Commendable for their efforts. Overall, the EPoX 5EGA+ is a well rounded board for those who wants the power of P4 3.6E without spending too much money upgrading the RAM and buying a brand new PCI-E graphics card. It would be good if the design incorporates a AGP slot as well. Suggested Retail : Pricing Info Pros
