EPoX 4PDA5+ Intel 865PE/ICH4
P4 Mainboard Review (1)
It has been sometime since we last reviewed an EPoX mainboard. Today, we take a look at their latest innovation the EPoX 4PDA5+ Mainboard. EPoX 4PDA5+ is a Pentium 4 mainboard suitable for the latest Socket 478 processors including the prescott. This mainboard is based on the Intel 865PE chipset. Interestingly, it is the only board that I have come across that incorporates ICH 4 instead of ICH 5 or 5R for the south bridge. So without ICH 5, would you be missing out some of the functionalities. Well, EPoX is smart enough to incorporate a separate SATA controller chipset which supports 4 SATA ports. Although most SATA offered RAID 0 and 1 only, the EPoX 4PDA5+ that is equipped with the SiliconImage Sil3114 chipset supports up to 4 ports of SATA drives supporting RAID 0,1,10 and 5. There is also Gigabit LAN on board. Although it is not the CSA on 875P which has a dedicated bandwidth, I think generally speaking, a desktop machine wouldn't really need that kind of dedicated bandwidth for your LAN. The onboard sound uses a 8 channel Realtek ALC850 chipset. Specifications : For Pentiumฎ 4
