Results

We did a simple test to the heatsink by monitoring the results of the CPU die and external temp from the BIOS screens of the Athlon 64 3200+ CPU running on the SOYO K8USA Mainboard.

Here are our readings running the CPU with Super PI 16M tests which lasted throughout the afternoon with an ambient temperature of around 28 Deg Celsius.

In our tests, we compared it with our Gigabyte 3D pro cooler. Both with fan full blast cooling the heatsink.

Next we did another test after letting the system cool down. This time round, we didn't turn on the fan and we found that the system resetted itself after running halfway down the SuperPI tests.

The temperature reached an amazingly high temperature recorded in the BIOS.

Well, this doesn't come as a surprise as the Athlon 64 is quite hot in nature. Perhaps the P4 could be used without the need of a fan to make it a true quiet system. Again I have to point out that the tests were done outside the case. If you have a casing with proper air flow, I think the temperatures might be lower.

Conclusion

Coolmaster has made the first 6 heatpipe which shows pretty good results compared to the Gigabyte equivalent. In fact, it performs better than the Thermaltake athlon64 cooler. The temperatures you see might be abit high especially the on die temp but that shouldn't affect the benchmark as both heatsinks are tested on the same mainboard and same processor.

Coolermaster could have improved a bit on their documentation and used the standard rentention unit on the K8 and P4 than to provide their own unique design and need users to remove it and install their own. This can be dangerous as some users are bad at handling screwdrivers and scratch the mainboard PCB surface.

The heatpipe runs cool with the fan attached. In fact, it would be better to provide an additional fan so that better airflow can be achieved.

In conclusion, Coolermaster has put up with quite an impressive product if you do not mind the size. It now remains to be seen if heatpipes will replace current heatsinks when price dips and maybe 8 heatpipes coming out in the future.
