ASrock K7S41 (SiS 741)

Conclusion We have mixed feelings abt the K7S41 because we couldn't understand why ASrock made a mATX board with overclocking features but the performance of the board is not that impressive. The board performs all right but we found the memory performance is hammering it. Is this a chipset's fault or BIOS fault ? The board runs all right even at aggressive timings without the need to pump up voltage levels. Although it ran well, we felt the heatsink is exceptionally hot when running tests like MCWS2003 and 3DMark2001/2003. It might be a good idea to add a fan on top of the chipset's heatsink if you have a spare one around. This board provides a very basic feature set - 6 x USB 2.0 , Ethernet, 6 channel audio. Although SATA is getting mainstream it is absent on this board. Installation of this board is straightforward but if you use a slightly larger heatsink, then you would have to spend time hooking up the retention clips because the space around the socket A and the chipset's heatsink is a bit too close to each other. Overall, the board exhibits stability and has options which appeals to DIY for a simple desktop machine. OEMs should be happy that the BIOS is very customisable for better compatibility with RAM.
